It’s the wire used to provide ringing on phones connected to the extension sockets, modern phones don’t tend to use it, also ADSL filters have capacitors so are able to supply ringing current rending the wire un-needed. Ring wire can act like an antenna and pick up unwanted interference which can weaken your connection. You’ll find ring wire in the phone socket, connected to pin 3, usually orange but that assumes that whoever wired it up followed the colour code properly. Disconnect it in all sockets, In fact disconnect any wires that are NOT connected to pin 2 and 5.
